NDLEA Nabs Teen Student With Meth Stashed Inside Crayfish

Benjamin Nnamani Daberechi, a 19-year-old student, was taken into custody by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agents at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja.

Benjamin Nnamani Daberechi, 19, was detained by agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja for attempting to export 7.2 kg of methamphetamine wrapped in crayfish to Europe, where he was pursuing undergraduate studies.

On Wednesday, July 12, the young suspect was detained as Turkish Airlines flight TK 0624 passengers were being cleared for departure.

NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi said in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja that Daberechi initially claimed to be a student traveling to Cyprus for academic purposes, but after a thorough search of his luggage, he was discovered to be in possession of 7.2 kg of a white substance that had been carefully hidden inside a sack of crayfish.

However, a field test of the substance revealed that it contained methamphetamine, according to Babafemi.
