Niger Security Officers Made the Mistake of Shooting a Policeman
Yesterday evening, a police officer in the Republic of Niger was shot and killed by a gendarme when he entered Yamai University late at night carrying a firearm in a dimly lit area.
According to the secretary of the Abdoul Moumouni Dofo University student union in Yamai Almoustapha Bakin Batoure, who spoke by phone to Voice of America, they opened fire on the policeman because they didn't know why he came to the campus wearing white clothes and how he fled when the Gendarmerie ordered him to stop. This resulted in his immediate death.
Issa Ibrahim, a police officer, reportedly went to the university to discuss a matter that one of its presidents asked him to do, but the discord between him and some students led them to ask Gendarme security officers who are in charge of maintaining security around the university for assistance.
The policeman is thought to be a terrorist who is attempting to enter the campus to carry out crimes, according to the pupils.
He fled when the gendarmerie arrived, prompting them to fire a warning shot in the air, but he would not stop, and as a result, they shot him to death.
The government has not yet made any comments on this matter.
