Peace or Amnesty for Terrorists Will Not Work - Nigeria's Chief of Staff
Making excuses won't help the battle against terrorism or solve Nigeria's security issues, according to Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of Staff of the Nigerian Army.
NIGERIA'S ABUJA - According to the Chief of Army Staff, the bandits are not a show of support for amnesty or reconciliation; rather, what he opposes is allowing them to consolidate their strength and plan future attacks.
In light of this stance, General Lagbaja gave the Chief Officer in charge of assaults the task of devising a strategy to address the issue of insecurity in the Zamfara state.
General Lagbaja added that any issue impacting Zamfara should also affect Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, and Niger states when the governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare, visited him to voice his complaints about how bandits are killing their pets.
In order to prevent the bandits from fleeing to the north if they are attacked from the south or even if they are attacked from the north, he declared that a joint attack would be launched simultaneously by the forces of the First Division in Kaduna and the fighters of the Eighth Division in Sokoto.
The fight between herders and farmers, the ethnic strife, the mining issue, and the fact that all parties are armed are only a few of the many causes of the security issues in Zamfara State, according to the Chief of Staff of Nigeria.
He stated that the issue of peace or amnesty for the terrorists will not have any impact and that the forces will take tough measures to halt them in order to deal with the situation.
