Rusau: Court Fined Kano Government 2 Million Naira

The Kano Government was fined two million naira by a Federal High Court for seeking to tear down several structures.

The Kano administration was forced to compensate two individuals one million naira each after they attempted to have their buildings destroyed in the state's Salanta district.

The Kanon Government stepped out of line, according to Justice Simon Amobeda, the judge who presided over the court session today, by painting structures with marks of destruction on the justification that it was done unlawfully.

According to Justice Simon, the government broke sections 43 and 44 of the Nigerian Constitution, which allowed the victims Saminu Shehu Muhammad and Tasiu Shehu Muhammad the right to possess property.

According to the Aminiya daily, the Salanta area's impacted buildings comprise floors 41, 43, and 68.

Additionally, the court determined that the Kanon Government's entry into the buildings on June 14, 2023, about 11 o'clock at night, violated the National Constitution.

The Kano Government was also mandated by the court to repaint the structures that the Kano City Planning Authority KNUPDA had tagged with red paint.

Barista Bashir Ibrahim, who brought the matter before the court, said in a statement following the ruling that the court's action should be applauded for upholding human freedom and dignity.

The Kano Government Attorney, Barista Musa Dahuru Muhad, stated that before taking the proper action, they will carefully consider the court's ruling.
