Rusau: Court Fined Kano Government 2 Million Naira

For attempting to demolish some properties, a Federal High Court ordered the Kano Government to pay a two million naira fine.

For attempting to destroy two people's buildings in the state's Salanta region, the court ordered the Kano government to compensate each of them one million naira.

Justice Simon Amobeda, the judge who presided over the court session today, declared that the Kanon Government had over the line when it painted structures with indications of devastation on the justification that it had been done so unlawfully.

Saminu Shehu Muhammad and Tasiu Shehu Muhammad were the victims, and sections 43 and 44 of the Nigerian Constitution allowed them the right to hold property, according to Justice Simon's argument.

The Salanta area's floors 41, 43, and 68 are among the impacted structures, according to the Aminiya daily.

Additionally, the court ruled that it violated the National Constitution for the Kanon Government to enter the premises on June 14, 2023, about 11 o'clock at night.

The Kano Government was also mandated by the Kano City Planning Authority KNUPDA to repaint any structures that had been tagged with red paint.

Speaking after the ruling, Barista Bashir Ibrahim, who had brought the matter before the court, said that the court's judgement should be applauded for upholding human freedom and dignity.

The Kano Government Attorney, Barista Musa Dahuru Muhad, remarked on his side that they will read the court's ruling before taking the proper measures.
