Sit-at-home: Gani Adams issues stern warning to IPOB leader Simon Ekpa, says Lagos isn’t Igboland
Simon Ekpa, the head of a section within the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been warned not to go through with preparations to hold the sit-at-home demonstration in Lagos State by Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land.
Adams also advised IPOB to think twice before making such a move or attempting to impose their agenda on Lagos or any other South West region because it is not the Biafra Republic.
According to reports, Ekpa hinted in a tweet on Wednesday that IPOB planned to duplicate the sit-at-home protest in Lagos.
According to a comment from Ekpa, "Biafrans in Lagos should be ready to join the call for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's release. After spending the previous two weeks at home, we are traveling to Lagos.
"Now is the time to demonstrate your support for this call for justice. Lagos' Biafran population will lock down. The consultation will begin soon," part of his post was said to have stated.
The South East would be holding a two-week sit-at-home protest, Ekpa had stated on Tuesday.
In response to Ekpa's statement, Adams warned the ethnic propagandist based in Finland to refrain from "repeating the mistake of the 1970s" and cease the action, which he described as uncalled-for and unhelpful, in a telephone interview with Saturday Tribune.
As the South-West is not a part of "their Biafra" Republic, the Aare Ona Kakanfo emphasized that it is absurd for "outsiders to dictate or impose their agenda on people of other regions whom they cohabit with as residents."

The Aare Onakakanfo reaffirmed the South West's position that Nigeria should be restructured into true federalism, allowing each of the federating units to grow at their own rate.
"Our position is true federalism, which is the division of Nigeria into regions so that the regions can develop at their own rates," he declared.
In threatening yet another shutdown, Ekpa allegedly stated that the purpose of the sit-at-home was to call for "the immediate and unconditional release of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who remains illegally detained at the DSS dungeon."
He declared: "Following the demand by the Biafra people for more sit-at-home civil disobedience, the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE) and Biafra De Facto Government in Homeland wish to notify Biafrans that there will be a sit-at-home civil disobedience starting from July 31 to August 14, 2023."
He claimed that the demonstration served as a prelude to "Biafra's self-referendum" and a warning to the outside world that "Biafrans" were seizing control of their own destiny.
According to the IPOB factional commander, the sit-at-home protest would be held "to invalidate the illegitimacy of those who parade themselves as Nigeria's representatives within the Biafran territory."
The new sit-at-home order followed a private gathering of South East political leaders when they decided to request a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to discuss the security situation in the area.
