The authorities of Niger visited the areas where the terrorists drove people from their homes
In an effort to calm down the residents who evacuated their homes after terrorists told them to leave the towns at the beginning of July or face the consequences, the interior minister of the Republic of Niger has travelled to a few areas in Tilabery state.
Following the loss of around 12 farmers who were slaughtered by bandits last Thursday, a delegation of government representatives was also sent to offer condolences to the populace.
At least two weeks after the terrorists gave them a deadline to leave and threatened to take harsh action against them, thousands of residents of several villages in the local government of Ouro Gueladio have taken refuge in Torodi town. This is the first time Interior Minister Hammadou Souley Adamou has visited the camp of these people to encourage them.
"We have come with a message to encourage you and the president, to emphasise our intention to solve this issue effectively so that peace returns to these two districts of our country, Say and Torodi," the note reads. Added Adamou.
The minister continued by saying that the government of Niger is committed to completing a number of significant projects that would promote growth in this region.
He continued by saying that as part of the plan to expand trade between the ports of Lome, Ouaga, and Niamey, they would carry out a number of community development projects in these districts, where they would spend 20,000 million CFA to build rural roads after constructing 132 schools and hospitals. He urged the locals, especially the community leaders, to put forth an effort.
The state of Tilabery, which borders Mali and Burkina Faso, is plagued by the activities of terrorist organisations. Last Thursday, 12 farmers were murdered in their farms by bandits, prompting the local team, led by the Minister of Rural Anzourou, to visit the scene and offer support to the locals.
All citizens are worried about the security situation in this region where the French nation has put some of its troops that it withdrew from Mali in the pretext of combating Niger's forces in the war against terrorism. They are questioning how the issue is growing worse.
