The European Union has said that it has stopped all financial support it gives to Niger and cut off all security-related relations between it and it, following the military coup in the country.

Josep Borrell, the European Union's policy director, said this in a statement he released.

Those who made this coup in Niger declared General Abdourahamane Tiani as the president on Friday, after they defeated President Mohamed Bazoum.

The European Union, the United States and other countries have called for the release of President Bazoum without setting any conditions, and for the restoration of democracy in the country.

Niger is the country that receives the most support from Western European countries, and is the main partner of the European Union in the fight against migrants who are crossing the Sahara to Europe.

In addition, the European Union has troops working to provide training in the Republic of Niger.

The European Union has published on its website that it has allocated a sum of 503 million euros since 2021 to develop governance and education in the Republic of Niger.
