The National Register of Beneficiaries is not valid - Govt
The Federal Government's approach is ineffective, according to the National Economic Planning Council, thus the governors should develop a comprehensive registration system for the impoverished.
Charles Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, made this declaration following their Thursday meeting at the Presidential Palace.
He asserted that it is proper for the impoverished to get the initial distribution of charity.
"We should be honest with ourselves and admit there is no comprehensive list of the poor in this nation."
A plan to provide the impoverished people allowances to lower their cost of living, according to their capacity, should be developed by the Federal Government and Governors, he added.
Governments that have not paid pensions, for instance, should pledge to do so. Those who haven't paid their ariyas should start spending their money before giving it.
"Governors must also cut back on extravagance, as there is currently no justification for the governor to travel in a convoy of 20 vehicles.
"What is right for the poor should be done in this circumstance."
