The Nigerian House of Representatives will give traditional rulers a place in the country's governance system
Hon. Tajedeen Abbas, Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, stated that the legislature will work to guarantee that the traditional leaders are given a position in the nation's governing system.
According to Tajedeen, in order to recognise the function that traditional leaders perform in society, the country's constitution must have a position for them.
During a visit to the palace of His Majesty the Emir of Zazzau Alh. Dr. Nuhu Bamalli, the Speaker of the House of Representatives delivered this speech.
In the House of Representatives, Hon Tajedeen, also known as Iyan Zazzau, represents the Zaria Constituency.
He urged for the traditional rulers to be given a status in the nation's constitution during the visit by outlining the importance and prestige of the traditional monarchy.
"I recall you presenting the necessity to include a position for the traditional rulers in the constitution three years ago when we listened to the thoughts of the people on the rewriting of the constitution in different parts of the country.
"Well, I can tell you that you now have the chance to accomplish that. Musa Krishi, the special assistant to the speaker of the house, said in a statement that "as your son and I am leading the House of Representatives, we will look at this resolution to provide our kings a place in the constitution of our country."
Finally, he urged the traditional leaders to work together, particularly in the northern region of Nigeria, to support this endeavour and requested their counsel on how best to carry out his leadership duties for the parliament.
The monarch of Zazzau stated that many politicians in the nation disregard the traditional leaders after winning an election.
