The opposition leader called on his supporters to protest in Senegal

Ousmane Sonko, the head of the opposition in Senegal, urged people to demonstrate against President Macky Sall's plan to seek a third term.

The majority of legal experts agree that President Sall's scheduled statement today, Monday, to announce his candidacy for the 2024 election, or vice versa, will be in violation of Senegal's constitution.

According to Mr. Sanko, he has endured threats to his life for years as a result of one person's avarice.

Thousands of people protested in Senegal last month after Mr. Sonko was given a two-year sentence for scamming young people.

The decision is seen as an attempt to prevent Mr. Sonko from standing for president in the general election by Mr. Sonko's followers and some pundits.
