 The president of Niger said he will protect democracy

The president of Niger vowed to defend the nation's hard-won democratic victories after seizing control of both the army and the administration.

A day after declaring the overthrow of the administration, the former president of the Republic of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, swore to defend the democratic gains made through laborious efforts.

The military in Niger proclaimed last Wednesday night that they would overthrow Bazoum, and they did so by destroying the country's constitution and putting an end to all civil order.

Since the incident, Mohamed Bazoum, whose whereabouts are unknown, has made a pledge that the Nigerese who support democracy will triumph in the end.

The United States, as well as the United Nations, have all pledged to back Bazoum fully in his current predicament.

Since the year 2020, there have been seven coup d'états in West and Central Africa.
