The White Goods Commission has filed a complaint against the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Emefiele

The suspended Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, is being accused in court, according to the Nigerian Security Service, DSS, after the court previously ordered that he either be charged or released. Let him go.

D.C. - According to documents submitted by state attorneys, Emefiele is accused of money laundering, which carries a potential sentence of a lengthy jail term.

Emefiele has not yet been in court, and the DSS has not provided specifics about the accusations against him.

Emefiele was placed on administrative leave by the new president, Bola Tinubu, on June 9; the DSS then detained him the next day.

In a statement, the DSS stated that "following an Abuja High Court order on July 13, 2023, the Ministry of Public Affairs confirmed that Godwin Emefiele was arraigned in court in accordance with the order."

Emefiele's attorneys will get the court papers, and the court will set a date for his trial, at which he will either be obliged to confess or not.

Less than two weeks after taking office, President Tinubu gave the order to halt working. Recently, the central bank relaxed the restrictions it had imposed on the company in order to coordinate its efforts to draw in foreign investors.

A person cannot be held for more than 48 hours without being charged in court, according to Nigeria's constitution.

In order to keep Emefiele in custody for a longer amount of time while the investigation is ongoing, the government's attorneys said they obtained a directive from the lower magistrate's court.

Emefiele will step down from office in 2019. He was chosen by the late President Muhammadu Buhari for a second five-year term in 2019. Buhari has backed the country's currency strengthening because he views it as a source of national pride.
