The Social Democratic Party (SDP) campaign office in Lokoja, the state capital of Kogi, was set on fire by arsonists.
It was reported that at midnight, suspected thugs broke into the party office at IBB Driveway in the state capital, which is close to Paparanda Square.
According to witnesses, the attackers chased away the security guards who were on duty at the campaign office before setting fire to the party office.
Important papers and valuables were among the things destroyed. The campaign office's parking lot was also set on fire.
Dr. Sam Ranti Abenemi, the SDP's deputy candidate for governor in the November 11 election, claimed that "the hoodlums came in large numbers and set all the properties in the office on fire, including generators, computers, campaign materials, and televisions."
He urged the party's followers to maintain their composure, reiterating that the matter will be addressed in the proper forums.
Faruk Adejoh-Adu, the SDP standard bearer's director of communication, stated that "we encourage the world and all people of good conscience to come to Kogi State's rescue by rising to denounce these persistent, egregious abuses of power.
"Despite our repeated protests and formal complaint to the security agencies against the known perpetrators of these acts of serious electoral violence, this tendency has persisted.
For whatever it is worth, "We have again formally incidented another complaint at the Kogi State Police Command but we have no confidence in the ability of security agencies in Lokoja to rein in this arsonists."
Kogi, SP Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) When our reporter contacted William Aya about the event, he promised to respond, but as of the time this story was filed, he still hadn't.
Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, the SDP's standard bearer, reportedly stopped in Lokoja on his way from Idah to Abuja on Sunday to check the burned-out office that had been vandalized on June 9, 2023.
