Tinubu begs Nigerians to be patient amid economic hardship, says he sees light at end of the tunnel

There is hope at the end of the tunnel, the president of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has pleaded with his countrymen.

The president issued this statement on July 19, 2023, to wish Nigerians and Muslims around a happy Hijrah (1445), the start of the new Islamic year.

More financial hardship has been experienced by Nigerians as a result of recent fuel price increases, which increased from N185 to N617 in just two months.

Many called on the Tinubu administration to act quickly to ease the suffering because things are growing worse than normal.

However, Tinubu responded to the change in the Islamic new year message in a more subtly worded way, saying, "As we persevere and struggle to confront our present challenges and the temporary pain we experience, I enjoin you to remain hopeful that there is light and prosperity at the end of the tunnel."Despite the current challenges, my team and I are doing all in our power to keep the commitments we made.

As the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) decided to migrate from Mecca to Madina in 1445, the President urged the populace to imbue themselves with the principles of patience, persistence, and faithfulness.

He urged people to make sincere requests to God Almighty to guide and guard Nigeria's path to greatness and prosperity.

"I prayed that a more tranquil and prosperous era would usher in with the new Hijri Year."

According to a statement released by Aso Rock on Wednesday night, the President has continued to meet with important figures about how to put the economy on solid ground.

In this regard, the Senate President Godswill Akpabio and a few Governors, including those of Imo, Kwara, Lagos, and Ogun, met with the President and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

The meeting took place in the President's office at the State House in Abuja and included former governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State.

 

According to Dele Alake, a spokesman for the president, the conference also discussed how to finalize plans for distributing palliatives to lessen the impact of the elimination of fuel subsidies.

As part of its earlier plan to improve the nation's food security, the administration had suggested giving farmers access to cereals and fertilizer.
