What is the status of the 2023 Kano State Governorship Election Case?

Kano State Governor Kabir Yusuf has concluded his case against the APC, in which he only called Kano State Secretary to the Government Dr. Abdullahi Baffa-Bichi as a witness.

Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi was introduced by the Governor's attorney, Abba Kabir Yusuf Eyitaye Fatugun SAN, as their defence witness at the Court of Appeal session for the election of the governor under the Shari'a.

APC presented the election results for various local governments, including Bichi Local Government, before making its case.

The National Electoral Commission (INEC) is being pressed by the APC to certify Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP as the victor of the March 18 state governorship election.

According to Baffa Bichi, who testified in court, Nasiru Gawuna of the APC won the election by a margin of 128 thousand and 897 votes on March 20 after receiving 1 million 19 thousand 602 votes against Yusuf's 890 thousand 705 votes.

When asked what kind of role he played by the APC's attorney, Effion Effion SAN, Bichi responded, "I don't know," to which Baffa responded, "I went to the electoral commission as a representative of the NNPP in Kano State."

Baffa said in court that he visited INEC to ensure that they complied with the Electoral Commission's rules and the Constitution when announcing the results. He was pleased with the manner the Electoral Commission presented its job.

The court postponed the case hearing after he had finished his testimony to Monday, July 24, 2023 so that the third party, the NNPP Party, could present their defence witnesses.
