Despite having the chance to collaborate with some of the best vocalists, the American hip-hop music entrepreneur has admitted that he declined their offers. The well-known hip-hop musician claimed that while working in the studio, he must adhere to his values.
Prince, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder were three musicians he turned down because of their standing as well-known and established performers, according to the famed rapper and beatmaker who helped shape the careers of artists like Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube.
The 58-year-old rap legend said that he liked working with emerging musicians during an interview with renowned American comedian Kevin Hart for his podcast, Hart To Heart.
"They just wanted me to work with them, and I was just like, "What am I going to do with them?" the Compton rapper said to Hart.
Dr. Dre continued by saying that it is possible to shape emerging musicians into something unexpected and thrilling. However, it is not the case with already well-known superstar artists.
What am I going to do with them? he asked. "But you are Dr. Dre," Hart remarked in a vote of confidence for the renowned producer and song writer.
Dr. Dre yelled back, "Stop, stop," before adding another well-known musician to the list of performers he had rejected.
Dre responded, "Most recently, Stevie Wonder," which once further shocked Hart, his interviewer.
"Dealing and working with new artists has been a constant throughout my entire life and profession. What I enjoy is that. There is no agenda when somebody enters. They arrive on schedule.
