Zainab was close to her father when he was alive as the revered late King, who ruled Kano for the longest period of time. "In October of last year, I had other thoughts. When I was chatting to my mother, she suggested that I work for my father instead of the job I had in mind. I had some reservations about the notion; I didn't want to begin working on my father's film for fear that others would assume she was hunting for her father's name. But after giving it some thought, I realized that it was a significant issue that no one was discussing. And it's a major problem for any filmmaker.
Zainab chose to film Marigayi because, in her words, "actually, there is a great need for books." -writing, and I see a lot of movies being made about famous people and different subjects. Usually, we find people who write the life history and personal moments in books, be they lovers or patriots who have passed away.
"I believe that fascinating lives are enjoyable to watch and learn about. Write a book; it might not be as well-known, but a real movie lets you see and hear his innermost thoughts and feelings, whereas a book merely employs words. Therefore, I believe it's worthwhile to make people remember it, even though it's expensive, stressful, and requires more work experience.
In response to the topic of money, Zainab stated: "I believe that because this is my first time acting in a movie, I never considered the amount of money that will be spent. I made the choice to act. Although it is difficult and expensive, I will never begin it or finish it. As a result, it physically and monetarily taxed me, but when I saw the finished product, it was all worthwhile.
Zainab faced numerous difficulties, much like the majority of those working in the film industry, but in the end, she was pleased to admit: "Yes, many difficulties. I carry a heavy burden as a writer, director, and producer. Nobody accepted my responsibilities, and nobody helped me financially. I spoke with the curator of the Weapons Museum while I was exploring the area, and he gave me permission.I did everything, even obtaining D.O.P. and an editor. Finding his archive, his old images, and his old videos is the most challenging task. Even though working in the film industry is extremely difficult, witnessing my first film is an incredible experience.
It would surprise everyone to learn that Zainab did not attend a film production institute given the popularity of her debut movie. She was drawn instead by her love and passion for creativity in general and for art in particular. I didn't go film school, but I love to make movies.
