Barcelona have appointed former midfielder Deco as the club's new sporting director
The Portuguese, born in Brazil, aged 45, has signed a three-year contract at the Nou Camp.
Deco moved to Barcelona from Porto in 2004, and won La Liga twice in four seasons, and the Champions League in 2006.
Barca said Deco will lead their new philosophy and will work closely with coach Xavi and other assistants.
The union said it was planning to overhaul its governing body, with details to be released in the coming weeks.
Former sporting director Jordi Cruyff left the club in May.
Deco also played two seasons at Chelsea after his stay in Spain before returning to Brazil where he retired from Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro.
