Cameroon warns the federal government against floods in Nigerian states
There is a possibility that some states in Nigeria will face floods in the coming days as Cameroon prepares to open the Lagdo Dam on the banks of the Benue River.
The states, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), include Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau, Gombe and Bauchi.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement dated August 25, informed the NEMA agency, the announcement of the opening of the dam in Cameroon.
The letter said that when the time comes to release the water, the authorities in charge of the Lagdo dam will release the water gradually to prevent any damage that may occur to the residents of the riverside areas in Cameroon and Nigeria.
The government of Cameroon has expressed the hope that the Nigerian authorities will use this announcement to inform the public and take all necessary measures to avoid the damage that may follow.
