Some Women And Mothers Of Orphans In Kano State Are Struggling With The Cost Of Living
The economic crisis that followed the removal of fuel subsidies in Nigeria, forced women and fathers of orphans in Kano to hold peaceful protests, where they demand the authorities to take action to solve the problems of the cost of living.
If it can be remembered that the Kano state government said that it bought food items worth 1.6 billion naira to distribute to the poor for free, however, the date of distribution of the aid and how it will be distributed has not been clarified.
The women who came from Ja'een and neighboring areas in Gwale and Kumbotso local governments, in the midst of rain on Sunday afternoon, vowed to march to the Kano government to convey their grievances.
They decided that the subsidy does not have to be free, instead the price of the food should be reduced so that more people can benefit.
The leaders of the protestors, Habiba Sulaiman Umar and Maryam Abdullahi Muhammad, said that the economic situation has crippled their small local businesses.
