 Customs seized illegal goods worth 1.17 billion naira in 8 months


The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Division, Zone 'D' seized contraband worth N1.17 billion between January 30 and August 9, 2023.


The Acting Controller of FOU Joseph Adelaja disclosed this at a press conference in Bauchi.


Adelaja said that during the investigation, the force arrested a total of 88 people, including 174,585 liters of fuel and a pangolin-sized bag of drugs weighing 396.4 kilograms.

The rest, according to him, are 1,800 bags of sugar weighing 50 kilograms each, then 343 bags of fertilizer and 328 bags of foreign rice weighing 50 kilograms and so on.


"The army also seized nine bags of pangolins and drugs weighing 396.4 kilograms.


"Others are two live birds (African crowned crane), one live deer, one lion bone and a plastic lion's fat basket," he said.

Adelaja added that the officers seized 88 cartons of pesticides, 342 packets of foreign sweets, 190 cartons of flavored drinks, 23 bags of used shoes and 1,800 kilos of sugar bags. 50 grams each.
