Doctors in Zamfara are threatening to close government hospitals for lack of salary
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Zamfara state branch has given the state government one week to pay 17 medical workers their four month salary and other medical workers at Prince Bakura Specialist Hospital or go on strike.
The chairman of NMA in the state, Dr. Sanusi Bello, who addressed the media on Monday in Gusau, the state capital, also gave an example of the salaries of all doctors in the hospital for July 2023, and eight months allowance for medical professionals and not being paid, which made them stop working.
Bello said the organization has decided to give a one-week deadline to the Zamfara state government to address these demands.
He added that the union in Zamfara will continue the strike until Monday, September 4, 2023, if the government fails to meet their demands.
The president warned that the action will lead to the closure of all hospitals including federal government hospitals, state hospitals and private hospitals and the withdrawal of all medical and dental work by all doctors in Zamfara state.
