Wagner's leader, Yevgeny Prigozhinya, released his first statement via videotape after the defeat of the uprising he led in June.
Supporters of his group pointed out that the video was taken in a country in Africa.
The video was first published on the Wagner group's telegram channel "Razgruzka Vagnera" on the evening of August 21.
Prigozhin is shown wearing a military uniform with the logo of the Wagner group on his chest, and can be seen carrying a special Kalashnikov assault rifle at the same time.
In the video, Prigozhin stated that, "Our goal is to raise the prestige of Russia on all continents! And to promote the freedom of Africa."
He added, "We are trying to ensure justice and the well-being of the African people."
