 Israel has evacuated its citizens from the fighting area in Ethiopia

Israel has announced the killing of more than 200 of its citizens and some Ethiopian Jews, from the conflict-ridden cities of Amhara and Oromia to the country's capital, Addis Ababa.

There are thousands of Jews living in the Amhara region.

The statement issued by the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, ordered the people to be kept in a special safe place before taking them home.

There are reports of calm in the city of Amhara, where there was fierce fighting between army forces and militant groups.

The army said it had managed to quell the violence in the area, but there were still reports of violence in small villages.
