The spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, said that the ECOWAS security chiefs will find a solution if all the political methods have not been effective after the coup in Niger.
"Military action will be the last step," he said.
The security chiefs of the West African Economic Development Organization met in Abuja to find ways to overcome the military coup that overthrew the government of President Mohamed Bazoum last week.
The security chiefs of Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Gambia, Cote D'Ivoire and Cape Verde attended the meeting.
However, their counterparts from Mali, Niger, Guinea Bissau, Burkina Faso, and Guinea did not attend as a result of their suspension by ECOWAS from the organization due to the coup they led in their countries.
The security chiefs will present their decision to the leader of the group, Bola Tinubu, on Friday.
From here, the leader of the group will decide on the next step to be taken against the army under the leadership of General Abdourahmane Tchiani, who declared himself as the president of Niger.
