We are ready to take military action against Niger - Senegal
Senegal has said that it will participate in any military action that the ECOWAS group will order in the Republic of Niger to punish the soldiers who staged a coup if the need arises.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aissata Tall Sall, confirmed this position because of what she called Senegal's position in relation to the international resolutions that it has accepted, noting how coups are becoming common.
Sall said that observing such international agreements that Senegal has accepted, her troops are ready to go to Niger as soon as ECOWAS gives the order.
ECOWAS has given Niger 7 days to return the elected government of Bazoum Mohammed to power, after the meeting of its leaders last weekend, where it said that not taking this diplomatic step could give it an opportunity to use with force in forcing it.
Now, the security chiefs of the countries that are part of the group are holding a meeting in Abuja, to plan the strategies they will use to take military action if the need arises.
The minister said that Senegal, as a member of the ECOWAS group of countries, has no way of avoiding the implementation of the group's order, while also agreeing that it is necessary to stop the coup.
Regarding the failure to send troops to Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea which have already been coup d'état, Fall said ECOWAS is discussing with the coup d'état soldiers there to plan how to return power to civilians.
