 Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso will join forces in the fight against terrorists


The caretaker government of the Republic of Niger has approved the troops of Mali and Burkina Faso to enter the country to track down terrorists whenever the need arises to continue to strengthen the fight against jihadist groups that have plagued the Sahel region.


NIAMEY, NIGER - At the end of a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Niger Bakari Yaou Sangare and his counterparts from Mali Abdoulaye Diop and from Burkina Faso, Olovia Rouamba during their one-day visit to Yamai, the three countries reaffirmed their intention to strengthen cooperation measures in the field of security as stated in the announcement at the end of the meeting which was presented by the secretary of the Ministry of Affairs of Niger, Oumarou Ibrahim Sidi.


Oumarou said that in the field of security, the three ministers raised the problems of terrorism and those spreading extremist ideology in the Sahel region and West Africa, especially in the three neighboring countries.


They emphasized the intention of joining forces to suppress the calamities that are faced year after year in this area and which hinder the development of the community.


They also emphasized the need to strengthen the system of information exchange and joint patrols to defeat terrorist groups. Also, the three countries have agreed to give each other military support whenever there is an attack from outside or a terrorist attack.


In order to achieve success in their efforts, these countries have decided to establish a contact center under which they will manage cooperation activities in an effort to solve all the challenges that may arise.


Also, according to them, the door is open to any country that wishes to join this journey seeking financial and economic stability. This is the reason they decided to establish a joint secretariat according to this announcement.


The Ministerial meeting praised two laws signed by the President of the CNSP General Abdourahamane Tchiani on Thursday, which allow the Mali and Burkina Faso soldiers to cross the border of Niger whenever there is a security threat.


If only experts had repeatedly warned the governments of the Sahel countries on the issue of unity to deal with the challenges that plagued this region today at least 10 years ago, according to Dr. Seidik Abba, a commentator on security issues.


The relationship between Niger and the countries of Mali and Burkina Faso as a result of the coup d'état by the military in these two countries has led to a deadlock between them and the new political situation in the region has destroyed the G5 Sahel which is the identity of deciding to fight against terrorists in the interests of its 5 member countries.
