Through his charitable foundation, "Dirty Jobs" host Mike Rowe gives scholarships to people who want to learn a skill. Through the Work Ethic Scholarship Programme, which started in 2008, Mike Rowe's charity has given out a small amount of money to help people get training for skilled jobs that are in demand. They've shown that opportunities in the trades aren't just alternatives to good careers; they are good careers in and of themselves.
The Work Ethic Scholarship Programme is looking for the next group of smart, hard-working workers. It's about the people who share the same hard-working beliefs and know how important it is to have a good work ethic, take care of yourself, wait to get what you want, and have a good attitude. They want people who will do whatever it takes to get the job done.
The scholarship programme has given out more than $5 million over the years. On the official page for the scholarship contest, it says that all candidates must sign Rowe's "S.W.E.A.T. Pledge," which is a 12-point list of what Rowe thinks makes someone deserving of such a gift.

What kind of work do you want to do after you graduate, and what makes you want to pursue this career?
Make a copy of your transcripts.
Recommendation from faculty
Be a student in high school, have graduated from high school, or have the equivalent of a GED.
Be enrolled in or planning to enrol in an approved trade-related programme at an accredited two-year college, vocational or technical school, or other approved technical university in the United States.
