Nigerians have looted food that the government has blocked
Some people in Bayelsa state in Nigeria have broken into and looted the storehouse of grains and other food items that the state government has closed in Yenagoa city to distribute to the people in order to reduce the pain of floods in 2022.
The state government said some of the food items have started to spoil.
The shed on the Isaak Boro Highway in Yenagoa was demolished because of the tension that the community is in due to the rise in the price of consumer goods which originated from the removal of fuel subsidy which caused the high cost of living.
The withdrawal of the subsidy has caused the price of fuel to increase from N190 to N620 per liter which affects the cost of transport vehicles and food items among others.
However, the Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency has stated that these food products that have been taken away are not of good quality to eat, because they are spoiled, so anyone who eats them will face problems.
Explaining the invasion of the warehouse, the director general of the agency, Hon. Walamam Sam Igrubia, said that they are preparing to deal with the flood this year, when the head of the commission visited the areas, he also found other food products, especially rice and flour which are not suitable for eating.
This is the second time, after the theft by the people in Adamawa state.
