Remi Tinubu Named Maryam Abacha for the Main Meeting Room of the Women's Center in Abuja
The first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has changed the name of the main conference room 'Maryam Babangida National Center for Women Development' to the name of Dr. Maryam Abacha, the wife of the former military president, the late General Sani Abacha.
The hall which used to be called the 'African Peace Mission Hall', was inaugurated by the First Lady and renamed to Maryam Abacha, because of her contribution to peace in Africa.
In her speech, the first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, said the meeting is important in joint efforts to strengthen relationships and develop the progress achieved in achieving unity and lasting relationships among women.
She described Maryam Abacha as a talented and courageous woman in the development of the entire African continent.
"It was her decision to create the Federal Ministry of Women's Affairs and appoint a woman as a minister, which expanded to different states and respected the issues of Nigerian women.
"Recently during the renaming of this institution, I emphasized to the women that they should bridge the gap between them, show good behavior and focus more than the differences between us, because our unity as women is more important. This meeting is important as it is a great opportunity to make history in creating lasting peace in our society.
"While achieving our goals, it is good to understand and honor the people who played an important role in the development of peace and stability."
The statement of the First Lady is in line with the thoughts of other speakers at the meeting, including the Director General of the institution, Mrs. Asabe Vilita Bashir, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Women's Affairs, Mrs. Monilola Udoh.
All of them were happy how women are getting favor in the government in the field of national reconstruction.
In her speech, Dr. Maryam Abacha prayed for the country and the current government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for God to give them the strength to succeed.
She said that most of the women who hold positions of power today are very educated, where she advised them to use the opportunities they have for the development of the community.
She hoped that the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu would do a good job.
She also advised that all women should be encouraged to be useful and useful in the development of the country.
"I want to plead with you that women should not be left behind in taking responsibility. I am happy that I was a key figure in the establishment of this institution and I am grateful to the first lady and the institution for considering me worthy to put my name in this big building."
