The African Union suspended Niger from its activities
The AU has suspended the Republic of Niger from all its activities, following the military coup on July 26, it said in a statement on Tuesday.
The group also called on the leaders of the coup to release the elected President Mohamed Bazoum and return to their barracks.
The Peace and Security Committee of the AU noted the decision taken by the ECOWAS group of West Africa to create a force that will help in military intervention, and asked the AU to assess the economic consequences, social and security related to the deployment of such forces.
The Economic Development Organization of West African Countries, ECOWAS, said it is ready to send troops to Niger, if the diplomatic efforts to restore democracy in the country fail.
At the same time, the organization called on all its member countries and international countries to refrain from any action that could legitimize the rule of Niger's army, and said that it has rejected any interference from any country outside Africa.
