The former President of the Ivory Coast, Konan Bedie, has passed away
Henri Konan Bedie, the former president of Cote d'Ivoire, and a prominent politician who has been in power in the West African country for many years, has died at the age of 89.
Bedie served as president from 1993 until his government was overthrown in 1999, and later fought against his political rival, Alassane Ouattara, in the 2020 election at the age of 86.
Bedie's cause of death is still unknown.
He was especially honored for his involvement in the struggle for the "Ivoirite" cause, which concerns the identity of the Ivorian.
The issue has raised tensions among those who consider themselves natives of the south and east, and many of the foreign workers from neighboring countries have been in the north of the country for a long time.
