The Nigerian Army denied the rumors of sending troops to Niger
The Nigerian Defense Ministry has denied rumors that its forces are planning to take military action against Niger.
The statement issued by the director of media, Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau said that its forces cannot take such an action without the approval of the leaders of ECOWAS.
The statement said that the military action is the last step that can be taken against Niger, and this will be done only after all other measures that will take it to a stricter level have failed to succeed.
"The Nigerian Army is alarmed by a rumor that it is mobilizing its forces to take military action against Niger.
"In response to the seizure of power by the military, ECOWAS leaders have discussed and reached a consensus on the measures they will take regarding the issue," the statement said.
