The Zimbabwean court has given the opposition a chance to run for office
Zimbabwe's Supreme Court has cleared 12 candidates from the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change to run in the country's general election, overturning a ruling by a lower court that said they had registered late.
The court also acquitted four other candidates from smaller opposition parties to run for office although the reasons for the decision were not disclosed.
Several appeals have been filed on eligibility to run in the elections, after the June 21 deadline to complete the registration of candidates.
The registration of the candidates went on beyond the allotted time.
Ten candidates were unable to register due to payment challenges and other arrangements.
The election will be held on August 23.
