President Bola Tinubu has ordered the delegation of Islamic religious scholars who are intervening in the conflict in the Republic of Niger to return to the leaders of the country's military regime to get a firm commitment.
After a secret meeting with the teachers, the leader of the trip, Ustaz Abdullahi Bala-Lau said that Tinubu wants to avoid the use of force to resolve the crisis, and to ensure that Niger is returned to the path of governance.
He said Tinubu accepted their advice to avoid the use of military force to end any conflict, especially between neighbors and long time friends.
On Wednesday, the Islamic religious scholars returned to Niger for the second time, where they met President Abdurahamane Tchiani and Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine, before returning to Abuja to brief President Tinubu on the position they reached.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted Sheikh Bala-Lau as saying: "This is what made him ask us to go back to Niger so that we can continue discussions in an effort to see that the country is restored to a democratic system.
He also ordered us to remind the military leaders of Niger that there is a decision made by Ecowas regarding the coup".
According to him, the beauty paid for the intervention of the scholars, which made the leaders of the military government accept the mediators of the Ecowas group under the leadership of General Abdulsalami Abubakar and His Highness Sultan Abubakar Sa'ad III.
The sheikh of the teacher said that they will return to Niger to continue the discussion, because they understand that war is the last option.
