Tinubu informed the House of Representatives of his intention to send troops to Niger
The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, told the Nigerian Parliament the position of the Ecowas group on taking military action against Niger and other measures taken to punish the soldiers who staged a coup d'état.
The President of the Senate of Nigeria, Godswill Akpabio announced the President's message where he read directly from President Tinubun's letter.
The letter says, "After the tragedy that happened in Niger where the president was overthrown, Ecowas under my leadership condemned the coup and agreed to take steps to bring Niger back to the path of democracy. In a step to restore peace in the country, Ecowas issued a statement.
"All the borders of Niger and our countries will be closed and monitoring will be done to ensure that the decision is obeyed.
"Cutting the electricity that goes to Niger and asking for the support of the international community in implementing the position of the Ecowas group and cutting off the air transport within Niger and also those that will enter the country.
"Closing the means of bringing goods into Niger from Lagos and raising awareness among Nigerians especially on social media about the plan to take military action against the Niger army."
