The Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has overseen the relief program which includes food support for 2,000 families in Mafoni constituency in the city of Maiduguri.

A statement issued by Mallam Isa Gusau, the governor's spokesperson, said that the purpose of the food distribution is to ease the pain of removing the fuel subsidy, and during the distribution, each household was given a bag of rice and two beans.

Zulum stated that the beneficiaries of the program were selected from 27 constituencies across Maiduguri and 12 constituencies from Jere local government.

The announcement said that the food distribution which consists of 54,000 bags of rice and 54,000 bags of beans, was given to the most needy households in the two local governments of the state, according to the government.

She added that the government of Zulum has started looking for strategies that will reduce the effects of the increase in the price of fuel on the poor, by ensuring that food and other important services are provided to those who are in dire need.

Speaking at the distribution of the food, Governor Zulum said the bags of rice are part of the 3,000 bags of rice that the Borno government received from President Bola Tinubu.
