Electricity killed eight people in the area where the flood occurred
Eight people were electrocuted while hundreds were evacuated from their homes after strong winds and torrential rains in the Western Cape province of South Africa caused floods.
Residents of a village in the area were also evacuated.
Landslides and falling rocks have forced the closure of some major roads leading into Cape Town.
The heavy rain that continued until last night has caused the flooding of many rivers which has damaged infrastructure and power outages.
Authorities said that more than one thousand houses were flooded in areas including Houtbay, Bo-Kaap, Belville South, Macassar, Strand and Gordon's Bay.
