The government of Cameroon will punish those who spread rumors of coup
Cameroon's Minister of Communications, Rene Emmanuel Sadi, has warned against rumors that the country may face a coup, at the same time as the crisis in African countries that were colonized by France.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the country's government, he described Cameroon as a country of law-abiding people and threatened to arrest and punish those predicting a coup in the country.
"Therefore, the government needs people to be careful not to spread rumors of a coup and to predict the future of Cameroon, a situation that could cause unrest in the country," he said.
Since the army in Gabon seized power from the hands of Ali Bongo on August 30, commentators on social media continue to show the possibility of a coup d'état in neighboring Cameroon.
The 90-year-old President Paul Biya, who survived a coup attempt in the country in 1984, has been ruling Cameroon for 41 years.
His supporters want him to run again in the 2025 election.
