We have fulfilled all the conditions set by Ecowas - the Prime Minister of Niger
The Prime Minister of Niger appointed by the military, Ali Lamine Zeine, said that his country has fulfilled all the demands of the Ecowas group.
Zeine said this during a press conference he called a few minutes ago in Yamai, saying that the sanctions imposed on them have not yet been lifted.
"The things they asked for were talks with Ecowas, to see the president [Bazoum], and to set a time to return power to civilians," he said.
"The former president of Nigeria and the Muslim king came here twice, the great teachers also came. You can see me accompanying them to see Bazoum.
"Then we told them [the transition period] will not exceed three years and it is a national issue - contrary to what is said in the media, we did not say three years."
He called the sanctions imposed by Ecowas - the West African Economic Development Organization - on Niger as "illegal" following the military coup in July.
He stated that they hope that in the coming weeks an agreement will be reached between the government forces and Ecowas.
