 Metal mining kills 9 in Zimbabwe

At least 9 people have died at the mining site in Chegutu, 120 kilometers from Zimbabwe's capital, Harare.

According to reports, a heavy piece of metal broke off from the metal body of the mine, where it killed 9 people instantly.

The head of the mining company there, Henrietta Rushwaya, said that so far the bodies of 4 people have been found while the search continues for the bodies of 5 people who are believed to have been dismembered by the metal.

One of the rescue workers, Hussein Phiri, said that the work of searching for the body parts of the people is difficult, considering how the mining pits are closed, which prevents the workers from relaxing in searching for the people.

Johannes Nyautete, one of the miners who survived, said that after the steel broke, the mining pit kept closing.

According to reports, 20 people fell into the mining pits, and they are still being searched for.

The Minister of Mines, Soda Zhemu, who visited the place where the incident happened, said that this is unfortunate, while asking the rescue workers to do more to find the people whose families are in trouble.
