AEDC threatened to cut power to the Nigerian presidential palace
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has threatened to cut off electricity to the Presidential Palace and 86 other government departments over the debt of more than 47 billion naira owed to them.
Some of the ministries affected by the threat include the Ministry of Finance, Budget, Works and Housing, the CBN Governor, the Office of the Anti-Corruption Commission (EFCC) and others.
In a statement issued by the company on Monday, the AEDC has given ministries and government offices 10 days to pay their debts or have their electricity cut off, that is from February 28, 2024.
The electricity sector in Nigeria has been struggling with debt for years.
Last week, the Minister of Electricity, Adebayo Adelabu, ordered the DisCos (disCos) to stand up, otherwise anyone found guilty will have their license revoked.
