In January, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger announced their plans to withdraw from ECOWAS.

International affairs experts in Niger and the neighboring areas of Nigeria, including Christians, have commented on the efforts to seek interests in the dispute between ECOWAS and the countries of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.

In January, the three countries announced their plans to withdraw from the ECOWAS group because of what they called non-compliance with the rules of the organization.

ECOWAS has sanctioned them because of military coups in the countries at different times.

At the beginning of this week, the former President of the military regime in Nigeria, General Yakubu Gowon called for the lifting of sanctions imposed on the countries, which are under military rule.

He also asked the countries to withdraw their announcements of withdrawal from the organization.

At the end of this week, a special meeting of the leaders of ECOWAS countries is expected to be held, which is expected to consider the lifting of the sanctions.
