Nigeria wants to establish a commodity price regulation agency
The Nigerian government has said it is working to establish a price-fixing agency as a measure against rising prices of commodities in the country.
It is expected that the commission will analyze and adjust the price of basic commodities and maintain important food warehouses to adjust the price of grains and other food items.
The Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima said this on Tuesday at a two-day conference on climate change, food systems and resource mobilization held at the presidential palace in Abuja.
Senator Shettima said the meeting shows Nigeria's efforts to reduce the negative effects of climate change and ensure food security.
The Vice President who explained about the reform of the government's policies to provide food and drinking water, added that the interest in the food problem has become an urgent, medium and long-term issue where he explained that the medium-term plan includes revitalizing food production through subsidies such as distributing fertilizer and grain to farmers and households to reduce the pain of removing fuel subsidies and to address the difference in food prices by establishing a national price control board.
