Nigerians Should Give Tinubu Government Time -Gowon
The former President of Nigeria, General Yakubu Gowon has advised Nigerians not to be quick to judge the actions of President Bola Tinubu based on the current situation in the country.
The former President made this call in an interview with the media after his meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Palace in Abuja on Wednesday.
"I told him that there is no President who will reach this position who will not hear or see such statements and complaints personally in the media. But there is no doubt from what one hears and what one sees in different media. I think the government can do its best to overcome the problems that are plaguing the country."
He also said that every Nigerian President must hear such criticisms, so he urged Tinubu not to worry about the criticism he receives.
However, he asked Nigerians to give the President a chance because in his opinion, he is capable of doing it.
When he was asked his opinion about the difficulties faced in the country, he said:
"In my opinion, what one can say is that Nigerians, we must give the President time to do things the way they should. And don't be hasty and expect to see full results quickly. This that's my opinion."
Gowon said that the meeting with the President of the country focused on the issue of challenges affecting the ECOWAS regions, which he said must be resolved.
"As the living President, or the father of ECOWAS, I think we have to discuss some plans to see what can be done to overcome the situation,"
He denied the claims made on social media that he refused to attend the meeting organized by the ECOWAS group, adding that this may have happened because of lack of communication.
"I think that if there is any misunderstanding, the President should call me so that we can discuss what to do."
Speaking about the purpose of his visit to the President's palace, General Gowon said: "This is the first visit to the President since his inauguration. and wish him success."
