 Senegal's president said he will step down in April

The President of Senegal, Macky Sall, said that he will step down from the presidency at the end of his term on April 2, but he did not reveal the date of the election of his successor.

Mr Sall is under pressure to announce the election date for the new president after the attempt to postpone the election earlier this month.

The move threw Senegal into political turmoil - the country that is considered to be the most stable in terms of democracy in Africa.

In a televised speech, Mr. Sall failed to fulfill the hope of the Senegalese people to set a date to vote on his successor.

He also promised to step down from the presidency after the completion of his term of office. According to him, he will look into the possibility of releasing the country's rival, Ousmane Sonko, whose detention led to mass protests last year.

Mr Sall said that he does not think that elections can be held before the 2nd of April when he plans to resign.
