Somalia's parliament has approved a major security agreement with Turkey.

Under the ten-year agreement, Turkey will arm and train the Somali navy and deploy its ships in Somali waters.

Analysts say it is a big step to improve Somalia's maritime security.

Prime Minister Hamze Abdi said that the agreement eliminated - in his palace - the fear of terrorism, piracy, illegal fishing and the disposal of polluted waste.

This is coming at the same time that Ethiopia has signed a controversial agreement with the independent Somaliland Republic, which has increased tensions between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa. (Somalia, which considers Somaliland as part of its country, accuses Ethiopia of violating its rights).
