The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared the governorship election in Edo state as incomplete.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, stated this in a statement he issued on Tuesday night to explain the party's position on the nomination election held last Saturday.

The ruling party said that a new election will be held on Thursday to determine who will run for the governorship in the state in September 2024.

The party has called an emergency meeting of the National Action Committee on Tuesday night to resolve the crisis that emerged in the primary election led by Senator Hope Uzodimma.

Morka said, "at the emergency meeting held by the party on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 to review the issue of the primary election for the governorship of Edo state, the management committee discussed the matter and decided that the election is not completed and It has fixed Thursday, February 22 as the date of completion of the primary election in the state."

Controversy ensued after the nominations were conducted as two candidates claimed that they were the ticket holders of the party after the chairman of the election committee Uzodinma declared Dennis Idahosa as the winner of the election. .

Returning Officer Stanley Ugboaja later came out and declared Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the election despite Anamero Dekeri claiming to be the ticket holder.

Three of the twelve candidates who were selected to run for the primaries withdrew before that time. They include Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Lucky Imasuen and Ernest Umakhihe.

The candidates who were not satisfied with the results of the election staged a protest at the party's national headquarters in Abuja.
