G20 Summit Reveals Opportunity for Global Solidarity to End Hunger, Poverty - Tinubu
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has said that the discussions at the G20 Summit in Brazil have once again revealed the great opportunity for global solidarity to address the challenges facing the world as a whole.
In a message posted on his Facebook page after delivering his speech at the summit, President Tinubu said that at this year’s G20 Summit, Nigeria endorsed the Brazilian President’s call for global solidarity to end the greatest global threat, namely hunger and poverty.
“This resolution is in line with Nigeria’s commitment to fight hunger and poverty, and to create sustainable development through job creation for Nigerians,” he said.
The Nigerian President reiterated the call for African countries to reform global institutions, including the United Nations Security Council and the G20, to ensure fairness and inclusiveness so that Nigeria and African countries can participate in the initiatives taken by these institutions.
"On economic reforms, I reiterate Nigeria's commitment to ensuring fairness in the global tax system and financial system that will bridge the gap between large and small economies."
President Tinubu also said that while his administration seeks to expand Nigeria's tax base without adding to the burden on citizens, the government is focused on reducing hardship and creating more opportunities and improving infrastructure, and strengthening education, social security and social institutions, which he said are essential for the country's recovery and development.
